This is the go-to guide for individuals and families seeking professional advice on diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Written with authority and compassion, it includes moving, true stories told by real people in their own words.

Every year, millions of Americans are affected by mental illness, and the Covid-19 pandemic has only served to highlight the country's failings in this area. Too many people are perplexed, terrified, and overburdened; many of them are asking the same questions, such as: What does it mean when different doctors give me different diagnoses? What if my medical expenses aren't covered by insurance? Whenever will I feel better? Families and friends are frequently in the dark about the best ways to support their loved ones, from tackling monetary and practical problems to managing the emotional difficulties of caring for someone who is in pain.

We're here to support you with You Are Not Alone. This comprehensive guide, written by Dr. Ken Duckworth with the insight of a psychiatrist and the openness of a peer, clinics on the moving lived experiences of more than 125 people from all over the country whose first-person accounts illustrate the variety of mental health journeys.

This book also provides

  • ➕Practical guidance on dealing with a vast array of mental health conditions and navigating care
  • ➕Research-based evidence on what treatments and approaches work
  • ➕Insight and advice from renowned clinical experts and practitioners

This singular resource—the first book from the National Alliance on Mental Illness—is a powerful reminder that help is here, and you are never alone.
